Windows 7 the most secure OS

Will Windows 7 take the crown for the most secure operating system ? Microsoft seem to think so. Kevin Turner has claimed that windows 7 is more secure that Apple Leopard and also the current title holder Linux. Kevin Turner also had this to say: “It’s the safest and most secure OS on the planet today. Everything that we’ve learned in Vista will be leveraged in Windows 7″.

Microsoft have gained loads of experience with all the negative feedback back from the Vista muck up, quite a big statement from the Windows 7 camp but lets be honest there is no such thing as a secure OS so long as you have an internet connection, hackers find exploits in software as easy as we find information on the internet, sometime the OS cant be blamed yet we do not hear about 3rd party software being unsecure.

Anyway from my experience using Windows 7 so far it does seem to carry a very secure feel and i believe that Microsoft can make Windows 7 the most secure operating system to date.

Every version of Windows is more “secure” than the last, but the painful truth is that the more so-called “security” you add, the more user inconvenience you add as well. UAC is a prime example of that. The more you try to confirm every action, the more users will just learn to click “yes” to everything. Windows XP is the most secure OS in my opinion, simply because it’s so straightforward and easy to keep tabs on. Vista (and hence Win7) has way too many places to hide things, and a convoluted new system for managing system files, that makes it all too easy to stash a virus in the system. In XP, everything is transparent and understandable, and easy to maintain. Win7 did a bit to help make things more transparent and easier to manage, but it’s still a bit Vista-clumsy.

And of course MS will say that (insert newest version of Windows) is the most secure/fast/efficient/productive version of Windows ever. They’ve said that since the beginning of Windows (except Win2K, I think, which didn’t have “advertising” banners during Setup). It’s just PR fluff… what the final word comes down to is if it actually holds true in the real world ;)
